Oil-linked stock markets futures gained after U.S. inventory draws exceeded estimates. Energy sector futures are revisiting multi-month highs, with cyclical commodity strength feeding into Canadian and Australian equity derivatives. While gold is up 47% over the past year, silver ( SI=F ) — often considered a secondary store of value behind bullion — is up an even stronger 49%. Platinum ( PL=F ) is even higher, up 65%. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump once again floated the idea of issuing rebate checks to Americans funded by the hundreds of billions of dollars in tariff revenue imposed by his administration. Futures tied to the Russell 2000 edged lower by 0.3%, signaling persistent underperformance in small-cap stocks. Economists forecast that higher borrowing costs will weigh more on smaller companies’ profit margins in upcoming quarters.
