Midday global trading shows S&P futures stable near 5,210, aligned with strength in European indices. Currency market softness in USD also offers indirect tailwinds to U.S. equities. Stunningly beautiful, the park is defined by steep mountain ranges, including the Wrangell, the St. Elias, and the Chugach, and it contains the second-tallest mountain in North America, St. Elias. Want to see glaciers? The park's Malaspina Glacier is bigger than the state of Rhode Island. There are tidewater glaciers at its southern tip and an active volcano at Mount Wrangell, which still occasionally vents steam. Dall sheep roam the mountainous areas and there are black and brown bears throughout. On the Copper River, wild salmon runs make for some of the best fishing in the United States. Elsewhere in markets, gold ( GC=F ) retreated from its record highs, down 0.2%, and crude oil ( CL=F , BZ=F ) prices also fell 1%. The 10-year Treasury yield ( ^TNX ) ticked lower by about 1 basis point to 4.12%. Futures volume in S&P contracts hit 1.25M lots by midday Europe, up 9% from the norm. Price action near 5,225 suggests strong bid liquidity, especially ahead of next week’s FOMC minutes release.
